The YWCA San Antonio was chartered in 1910 with the mission of developing personal empowerment and self-sufficiency in women and their families. Today the YWCA strengthens families in the San Antonio community by providing an array of programs that focus on childcare, economic development, health education, and youth development.
Through its SEED program, YWCA promotes family economic success in the following ways:
- By empowering residents with the training and knowledge needed to become financially self-sufficient
- By providing comprehensive microenterprise training so that residents sustain thriving small businesses
- By providing computer skills training
YWCA also contributes to the development and protection of assets of residents through its Volunteers In Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The program assists residents in no-fee tax preparation and in accessing tax credits that return tax dollars to working families.
