Edgewood Family Network provides families opportunities to become self-sufficient and ultimately enjoy an enhanced quality of life, A Buena Vida. Members benefit from educational programs and link to vital resources that create strong families.
A centerpiece of the Edgewood Family Network is the work accomplished through its Promotores de Buena Vida initiative. The program trains residents on several community health issues in areas that include Cancer Prevention, Domestic Violence Prevention, School Readiness, Mentoring of informal children caregivers and Mental Health Awareness. Promotores then teach other residents about these topics while earning a stipend for the hours they work. Edgewood Family Network has taken this nationally-recognized education model to communities in the East and South sides of San Antonio.
Edgewood Family Network promotes self-sufficiency for families in Making Connection-San Antonio in several ways:
- By promoting Promotores de Buena Vida
- By impacting financial well-being for residents
- By participating on the West Side United Coalition, Edgewood Family Network works with other community-based organizations as decision-makers forming a common Vision for the West Side
- By promoting Education by mentoring and sponsoring adults to attend Northwest Vista College’s Community Health Worker Course
- By creating opportunities for above living wage employment for residents including high school teens participating in the Tekkies Program
